6. Manchester United: Vidic - Rooney

As Manchester United head into a new direction, the man David Moyes could turn to in order to lead the side, may well be Wayne Rooney.

The Red Devils striker certainly leads by example on the pitch and would demand respect from his teammates.

5. Tottenham: Dawson - Vertonghen

At 30-years-old, Dawson will soon be entering the twilight years of his career.

Dawson's eventual departure from the north London outfit will certainly act as a major blow for the White Hart Lane faithful, however they appear to have a ready made successor in Jan Vertonghen.

4. Liverpool: Gerrard - Suarez

Steven Gerrard is still a crucial member of the Liverpool team, but there's no getting away from the fact that he's now 33-years-old.

Life without Gerrard at Liverpool will be strange, but one day he will have to be replaced.

And, as long as Suarez is still at Anfield, he will have to be the next Reds' next skipper.

3. Chelsea: Terry - Cahill

John Terry is another English star that is coming towards the end of his career and Chelsea look as if they have a ready made replacement in Gary Cahill to take over as skipper at the Bridge.

Cahill and Terry have formed a fine relationship this season and the England international could take the armband off his partner in the near future.

2. Manchester City: Kompany - Nastasic

Vincent Kompany is still one of the world's greatest defenders, but the Citizens ace has struggled with injuries in the last few years, so it remains to be seen as to how long he will continue at the top level for.

However, he certainly has two or three years left in him yet and, by that time, Matija Nastasic would have gained enough Premier League experience to replace him as skipper.

1. Arsenal: Vermaelen - Mertesacker

Vermaelen has struggled to get into the Arsenal team in the past year and he could soon be on his way out of the Emirates exit door.

And, despite Mikel Arteta currently the club's vice-captain, the obvious choice to replace him has to be Per Mertesacker.
